Mauritius Telecom intends to penetrate regional markets by using the Orange brand as part of its growth strategy. The Chairman of the MT Board of Directors, Thomas Appalasamy, explained that Mauritius had a small structure and narrow market and in order to grow it was imperative to associate itself with an international brand.
He said: “The Corporate name of MT will remain the same but only the mobile and internet services will be re-branded as Orange. Merging with Orange does not mean selling MT. Orange will support MT to attack regional markets. Our aim is to make MT a regional leader in telecommunications.”
MT CEO Sarat Lallah said that MT had many commercial brands that were spread across three differrent services (fixed line,
mobile, internet) and that pooling them under one name would simplify MT's visibility with customers. He said: “With the telecommunications sector becoming more aggressive we have decided to opt for an integrated strategy by using a single name. This would improve our visibility to the customers.”
The Head of MT's Commercial Division, Alain Cornu, explains that the re-branding process would take place in phases. He said: “We have re-branded because MT must learn to adapt to new global trends in the Telecommunications sector and we will be able to provide a better service to our customers. There will be a replacement of the MT IT system and new products and offers would be available to the public. Our customers will as a result benefit from reduced prices, roaming and innovation.”

i totally welcome the arrival of Orange in Mauritius and I'm waiting impatiently for the launching of the new services locally like they are offered in the european countries like for instance broadband from 2MB-8MB supported by the actual Livebox of myT.
Still I wonder how the SAFE cable will support such broadband speed! That's the tricky question. Is this too much noise for nothing by Orange or simple Orange is targetting only the mobile sector for the time being for some couple of years before moving on to real innovation in the internet sector? Hope that's not the case! Nevertheless, the lobby that mounted against the arrival of Orange by the employees is unfounded. I don't understand their motive or simply it's something orchestrated by the syndicate for i don't know what reasons. Are we talking about their employment rights, contracts, etc? To me, nowadays, to achieve professionalism, i think the motto 'do excel or get fired' should prevail as we all know when the government owns the majority of shares in a company what kind of services we do receive. Points to ponder. Anyway, till then, babye. |

What has France Telecom brought to Mauritius Telecom since 2000?
Answer: Not much... What will Orange bring to Cellplus and Telecomplus? Answer : Not much... Since the arrival of France Telecom do we Mauritians pay 10.99 euros for 40 mega adsl, TV and Fix telephony package as in France??? Why has Mauritius Telecom changed the colour of its logo from blue and red to grey and ORANGE? If this is not a take over...I don't know what it is??? |

Rightfully said I hope this not just mere rebranding with nothing for the end user. If Orange is truly here to play at par with it's overseas operations then it better review the excessive prices practiced for internet services unless it can offer dsl 2-8 mbps at 9-17 euos as practiced in europe then it's just a mere cacophony

The biggest provider is ATNT and France Telecom and the rest are users,Would be great if MT come with something new,a chip for e.x that would be on sale on the Mauritian market and spread to the neigbourhood countries.

The main question remains: "Has Orange(FT) taken over MT? The change of logo for MT is definitely an issue of concern! FT and Orange are highly indebted. They use revenue from subsidiary companies... mainly from emerging markets to repay their debts.
FT has been forced to sell its premises at "La Defence" to...repay a minor part of their debts... as a result of the aquisition of ORANGE!!! Last but not least, How much will MT pay as royalty to FT for using the brand name ORANGE??? |
