Following the confessions of three men in the assault of a man, in Pointe aux Canonniers, a few weeks ago, a woman denied ordering the contract killing of her husband.

Angela Devising Somaroo denied that she paid Rs 5000 to Judex Boncoeur, 26, Ataniel Boncoeur, 20, and Bob Marley Louis, 25, all three from Triolet, to kill her husband Navin Somaroo, who was found lying unconscious in a bush in the vicinity of his store in Pointe aux Canonniers on April 28.

Witnesses told police that the restaurant owner was last seen having drinks with three men. Police caught the men on Sunday and they told police what had happened on the night.

They alleged that Angela told them to batter her husband to death and that they would be given Rs 5000 once the job was done. In their statement, they said that Angela set up a rendez-vous at the Solitude petrol station at 6pm on April 28. She met them by car and gave them instructions. The men were then dropped off at the Pointe aux Canonniers round about in the vicinity of the restaurant.

On the way, Angela gave them Rs 1000 to spend in the restaurant and a detailed description of her husband. The car driver even warned the men to avoid being filmed by the CCTV in the area. Once in the restaurant, they drank nine bottles of beer and ordered a bottle of wine and, at 7.30 p.m, they asked Navin to show them where they could hail a cab home. Once outside, the men dragged Navin into a wasteland. The men attacked him and eventually thought that he was dead. They then left the body and went home. Later in the night, police found the body and took Navin to the SSR hospital.

The men were summoned to the Pamplemousses Court on Monday under a provisional charge of attempted murder.

Angela, who has initiated divorce proceedings against her husband, was arrested by the CCID on Monday morning and was summoned to the Pamplemousses Court under a charge of giving instructions to commit a crime. She denied lock, stock and barrel the accusations against her.
