“Once a woman targets her objective, she is well on her way to achieving her goals”, says Kristina Bestel, 29, a Dog breeder and Vet pharmacist.
“Nowadays, women are working and they are financially quite independent. They should continue to perform successfully. Everything can be well done if you know how to organize yourself,” she says.
Kristina believes that women are on the same footing as men. “Today, things have completely changed; it’s not as in the past when men were deciding everything, at home or at the workplace. Women do enjoy equal status as men. They run their own enterprises, they are politicians, artists, poets, writers, and dog breeders among other things”, she comments.
“I studied German and English in France, but unfortunately I did not complete my degree course and came back to Mauritius. I have never enrolled for any tertiary education in vet pharmacy or dog breeding. I have learned everything on the job. I have followed a course in marketing, and I’m presently promoting vet products for a private firm”, says Kristina.
“I was brought up with dogs around me. At my parents’ place, we use to keep different types of dogs. Since my childhood, I am attached to dogs. When I got married, we built our house and got ourselves a dog. Keeping dogs was my hobby but it has now become my profession.” Recently, my female dog won the Best Female Dog Award in the International Dog Show, 2008 held in Rose Hill.”
According to Kristina Bestel, dog breeding is not an easy task; it’s a full-time job. “If you have courage and willingness, the work is interesting. We prepare the mother to give birth to puppies. I am confident that women can do better than their male colleagues in this field. They do have patience and motherhood feeling.” She feels there are prospects in her field of interest, because in our society people like domestic animals.
This mother of two children is very satisfied with her job and finds time to spend with her family. “I am lucky because of my good working hours which enable me to spend considerable time with my family and pets. There are women who reach home late in the evening. After work, they hardly have time for their kids. Women should plan their day in order to be in the company of their family.” she advises.
“It’s nice to be an independent woman but it’s no reason to remain single for the whole of your life or to have children while being unmarried. We should feel for a family life too,” concludes Kristina.
