British Authorities intend to reintroduce Visas as entry prerequisites to the United Kingdom for all Mauritian citizens. This follows an increase in the number of illegal immigration cases.
This decision follows a Visa Waiver Test carried out last week by the British government which threatens to add Mauritius and nine other countries to the list of the 100 or so countries requiring an entry Visa to UK.
“We are closely monitoring the situation jointly with the Government of Mauritius and if by the end of this year, a notable decrease in the number of abuses and attempts of illegal immigration is not noted we will impose an entry Visa to Mauritian citizens,” John Murton, British High Commissioner said on Wednesday at the BHC.
According to Murton, there is
a real problem concerning the security of official documents. “There are numerous cases of document forgeries such as birth certificates, marriage certificates and passports. Moreover a notable increase in the number of cases where Mauritian citizens have entered UK as students or tourists but have instead started working has also been observed,” he says.
In the same vein the British Vice-Consul, Steven Phettigrew, stated that many cases of forgeries have hopefully been uncovered. He added that a new digital recognition system will be set up to scan process every entry request to the UK.
John Murton also announced the introduction of a point system for those desiring to work or study in the UK. The aim is to ensure the transparency of procedures and allow every candidate to evaluate his own chances of obtaining a Visa.

There is always and there will always have a minority of people using illegal means to end up looking for the greener grass out there, whether we need visa to enter the UK or not. The problem is the number of genuine cases of people who have all the required documents handy bt are being refused a visa on the''balance of probabilities...''!!!

Why they intend to do so now??I think it's a one-sided decisions to Mauritian people. Why this injustice to us?I agree well to what Akaruku said they want only people of their race...it's a kind of hypocrisy as many Mauritian are successful there and are leading some companies. But there are some who really abuse of this!

John Murton & consorts are just inkompounks!
How many Mauritian are there in UK? How many Jamaicans, Nigerians, Somalians, Sudaneses, Ethiopians, Bangla Deshis, Pakistanis, etc, to name a few who run in millions migrants in UK are there? Since the last five years, Britain has welcome 3 (I mean three!) millions East European whites (the Hitler race of blonds/blue eyes, rtc) to whiten the Britons blood. The 500 hundreds or less working Mauritian per year has suddenly become a burden to the racist power in Whitehall. Mauritian are socially law abiding. They might have worked 30 hrs per week instead of the 25 hrs per week but they have not stolen any monies, nor mugged innocents nor falsified documents to get public funds. Common Mr Murton, do you know how Mauritius helped UK in the 50s, 60s, 70s? Do you? You don't! And, I am suppose to bow to you, Your Excellency? Since the advent of Tony Blair in UK, the British Govt has taken a dangerous racist tilt. Britain Labour Party (the pioneer of welfare state, socialist economy, social contract and equal opportunities) practises a new form of apartheid. |

The British were, are and will always be considered as a racist nation. Why do we need to go to Britain always? I have no comments at all now. Arete donne importance banne Anglais ! Deal with them as they deal with you. Mauritian Government must impose VISA system on British nationalities prior to visit Mauritius. Let the British to go through the interview system at the Mauritian Embassy in London. We don't care if you are white or black, we'll treat you same

Hi . Someone should ask the commissioner to clarify as to why the British Authorities have failed to control immigration and whether these new socalled tough process isn't purely a measure to stop immigration from a particular area of the world in favour of Europeans/ Whites only . Further more , he should be able to explain as to why his Government has failed to control the influx of immigrants from the east europeans countries or is it only 'CINEMA' for all .

Navin our Mauritian student *must study in the UK,you have to do all the necessaries to make it possible. They owe our nation a british pasport not to be there eternally but freedom to travel&study. They were treated like kings&Queens when they were at gymkana, trafalgar square Vacoas.

Does the British High Com serves a purpose?? I doubt so. What does Britain do for Mauritius?? you can count on your fingers! Being a colonial master Britain has only taken advantage of us. Clear example:- Leasing our Chagos Archipel to USA and extort all the money. Compared to other countries the amount of aid they provide is immense. We Mauritians we do not get anything free in UK.We pay for evrything from council tax to the full course fee, we do not beg for public funds in Britain. Other non EU migrants have contributed so much for long time since colonialism to the economy of UK before the arrival of EU but migrants but our contribution has always been disregarded. And TOday Mr Murton has the guts to say that we are abusing their immigration with our 1.2 million population?? Just spend five minutes and thinh Mr Murton what Mauritius have given your country and what you have give us. Weigh and think??
