Air France flight AF 966 from Charles de Gaulle lands on the Plaisance tarmac early Wednesday morning. Airport ADSU and Customs Officers had already been tipped off by the Field Intelligence Unit that a certain passenger, Cindy Legallant, was carrying a large consignment of narcotics.
She passed through the airport, unaware that ADSU were carefully scrutinising her every movement, and just before she was about to drive away in a chauffeur driven grey BMW parked in the car park, ADSU flew into action. The driver, aged 41, from Bois-Cheri, and Cindy, were marched off to the ADSU office for interrogation.
A blue suitcase containing two gift boxes were opened and ADSU found 21,755 Subutex tablets that could fetch Rs 21 million on the local market.
Under duress, Cindy turned informer and confessed everything to ADSU. She pointed
out that the driver was not involved with the operation and grassed to officers the identity of the mastermind. She even agreed to participate in a controlled delivery.
ADSU set up a sting operation at the Jumbo Hypermarket in Riche-Terre. An undercover police officer took the wheel of the BMW and drove to the Jumbo car park.
Around 8 am, the suspect, Bernard Joly, arrived in a brand new 4x4. He drove towards the BMW, unaware that police were ready and waiting. Once he got into contact with Cindy, police made the arrest and both suspects were this time escorted to the Plaine Verte ADSU for further questioning.
Their homes at Ste Croix and Goodlands were searched and nothing incriminating was found.
The name of the mastermind once again cropped up and the man has a previous record relating to Subutex. He is currently on bail and police are confident that they will nab the man shortly.
