In reference to your program regarding the struggle of Mauritian Students in Australia, I believe that there are 2 sides of the story. Unfortunately, the media always picked the worst one. First of all, there is approximately 5000 Mauritian Students studying in Australia and surely a group of unhappy students cannot really talk as a whole.
In regards to PR, let me explain to you how it works. Being a Mauritian born myself, I migrated to Australia in 1985 and surely whatever negativeness is being said about Australia is surely unacceptable and pure exaggeration. There is 480,000 international students from different part of the world coming around Australia to study each year (well...well...well...be realistic and join the queue as all 480,000 are here for PR....of course how could the Australian government grant PR to all 480,000????? and why should Mauritian students jump the queue?). A lot of big mouth licenced agents in Mauritius are talking bla bla bla...bla bla bla...what do they know about the Australian Immigration System?....what do they know about the Australian Education System?????? Some of them have never even seen the color of Australia and how dare they counsel students on studying in Australia. In regards to IDP Mauritius, well let me tell you that they are no "SAINT" as many of their own students have been misled by their so called counsellor in Mauritius. Some of them are even willing to testify live in regards to IDP Mauritius sending them to a course which was not of their choice or worst forcing them to attend school where the students landed up in the middle of nowhere....so my best advice to Christine Faugoo.....shut up..! and clean your own backyard instead of making as if IDP is some sort of honest and reliable agent. What about those students that work, study, live in comfort and drive a luxury car that they would never have dreamed to drive in Mauritius and goes on holiday every year to Mauritius?.....why not talk about the 99.9% of Mauritian students that enjoys being here and appreciate what Australia has to offer to them? In summary, there has been a lot of tam tam in regards to Mauritian students in Australia. I feel sorry for those that are having some trouble in Australia, but also I would hold them responsible for what is happening to them. For example, your agent advise you to bring at least $3000 in pocket money to support yourself for 3 months just in case you find it hard to find a job straight away (well....what do they do? arrive in Australia with $500.....this is surely a joke as $500 won't even support you for a week)....and who do they blame????? the agent. Surely some of them might provide some inaccurate information....but no one is holding the student like a prisoner and forcing them to come to Australia.....so my advice to those Mauritian having trouble here....grow up....take responsibility......move your ass and get a job.....4975 Mauritian have a job and can support themselves....so I leave it for you to work it out. |

My husband and I we migrated to Australia two years ago.We migrated after having secured our permanent residence and after having found jobs in Australia. We're both working full time and we've built our house now.We did our PR application online without using any agents and it went really quick and was really easy! We've become Australian citizens since. All I know is that when you've got tools like the internet it's sheer stupidity to trust and pay for agents to do something you yourself can do for no cost.A student visa was never the key to Permanent residency.Mauritians dreaming about migration should realise that once and for all!

Am in Ireland since 2 years now where the latest statistics of the immigration office says that there is at least 3000 mauritians here. With 40 people only who have work permits and the rest is on student visa or illegal immigrants. It's not true to say that the some " collèges sont en tôle et les logements proposés sont exigus " The buildings here is different are most of them are in bricks but as far as i know the colleges are in decent conditions. Lets come now to mauritian people over here. I would say that the very most of the mauritian students here once they got their visa for one year they just stop going to schools and thats why they are always in trouble when renewing their visa. Some don't even get there visa renewed and prefer to be illegal.By the way if you have a look at the casino which is found in the city centre of Dublin you will probably find half of the gamers are mauritians everyday !! Its a shame !! Regarding the accomodation. Many mauritians rent a house or flat and stay with 7-10 people in 1 or 2 bedrooms just to reduce the cost every month.I would say that the living cost in Ireland is high but it's not difficult to make progress here but you have to live a decent life. I would say that most young people who has came here is just enjoying and spending everytimes and when they are out of resources they keep complaining about Ireland, colleges, work etc ... I would not advised parents to send there children here mostly young girls as they way they are living here its shameful for some parents. I even know few of them are doing striptease or prostitutes ...

I had met a lot of students as a mauritian established here in Australia more than 35 years. I had heard a lot of false histories. About students , they expect to have everything in a couple of weeks. Well this does not work this way. First of all you have to learn from the birds. they have to build their nest slowly . Then in couple of years time they will collate their reward. As for lodging this is a very big paramount problem for all new migrant or student here. I do not have the time to explain or debate for your future ,as it is in your own hands. Do not expect a very rosy life in the beginning that all i can say to you.

Hey, that's not always true for everyone!!! I've migrated to canada since 3 months and with some effort, patience and perseverance, we're somehow settled with a full time job, nice car, good school for kid and looking fwd to make more progress in the future... but when just arrived here had to make some small sacrifices but that's natural, waas prepared for it!!! but it reaps it's fruits later, that's for sure!!!
