ICT directory
The second edition of the Directory of ICT companies in Mauritius was launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Ebene on Monday.

This initiative is part of a set of national efforts undertaken by Government to facilitate the development of a robust ICT industry in Mauritius and make of the island a strategic ICT hub.

“ Today, the world economic conjuncture and financial crisis situation compels us to make even more efforts towards consolidating our ICT sector, as this sector is not only considered as a high revenue and employment generating one, but is also one of the key support sectors for the country’s other economic activities,” Ashraf Dullul, Minister of Information and Communication Technology said during the launching ceremony.

At present, some 500 companies operate in the ICT sector and are involved in a wide range of activities including software development, contact centres, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), web enabled activities, training, hardware assembly and sales, networking and other support services. Amongst the big players, Accenture, Infosys, IBM, Microsoft,
ORACLE, HP already carry out activities in Mauritius.

“I strongly encourage and request the private ICT sector and ICT stakeholders to join hands and come up with other similar initiatives to further empower businesses and to brand Mauritius as an ICT destination par excellence, ensure sustained economic growth and generate wealth for the nation,” the Minister added.

SCB sponsors Liverpool
Standard Chartered Bank and Liverpool Football Club announced the signature of a 4-year sponsorship agreement on Monday.

The Standard Chartered Bank is present in Mauritius since the past seven years and is mainly involved in “ wholesale banking.” "I am tremendously excited, this is the largest commercial agreement we have ever entered into. To have attracted a partner of the calibre of Standard Chartered Bank says everything about where we are trying to take this football club,” Liverpool Managing Director Christian Purslow said.

"Standard Chartered is one of the world's leading banks. They're a global company, as we are, and their aspiration to be the best bank in the world matches our aspiration to be the best at what we do,” Purslow added.
