Finance market people started knocking at the rickety main door of his modest house, on Royal Road, Riche Terre, from the morning of Monday when they came to know the name of the winner.
“Before I had even gone to claim the money,a representative of an insurance company came to see me. He came to propose to me the services of his firm and to advise on the best investment plan for me,” a soft-spoken, humble Joseph Guillyano Zamir, 36, the man who became a millionaire overnight, told News On Sunday.
After he received the money on Monday afternoon and his name was flashed on all the media, a “horde of news people” were after Guillyano to know his story, his brothers, Gino and Patrick, said.
There were also representatives of other banks, insurance companies, and financial institutions who were on Guillyano’s trail. They all wanted him to come to invest in their wide variety of portfolio.
Guillyano revealed to this paper the names of the companies that came to see him.
“My brother was practically being pestered from all sides. He suffered from headache. He finally decided to move out from his house to a secret place with his family for peace. That will, I believe, also give him time to think what he will do with his money,” Gino told this paper.
Gino also said that his brother understood the interest that the media and the financial institutions have in him and “he is thankful for that. However, for the moment he needs rest and time to think. My brother says he'll take some reflextion time, spend December among his family members and parents. He will decide what to do with the money only in January after weighing the costs and benefits and analysing the different offers from financial institutions.”
Guillyano Zamir received the Rs 30-million cheque in the office of Loterie Nationale ,at HSBC House, Ebène on Monday. His winning numbers were 3, 11, 12, 26, 32 and 38. The ticket was bought from Tabagie Hawoldar ,in Riche Terre, just a few metres from his house, on Saturday morning.
A cabinet-maker and father of three, one daughter and two sons—Giane 11, Luciano,8, and Christiano, 3, Guillyano has been playing the Loto since its launch four weeks ago.
After receiving his cheque, Guillyano said: “I cannot still believe that I have won the lottery.” He added that the money would not change his lifestyle radically; he would keep working as a cabinet-maker but would, most probably, set up his own business.
Guillyano has a mother, four sisters and three brother. He lost his father some years back. He's the youngest in the family. Nine years ago, he lost his right eye and when the company where he worked closed down, he never gets any insurance. He however gets Rs.900 monthly from the Ministry of social security.
The Zamirs have alsways lived in Riche Terre.
Jean-Pierre Desbiens, General Director of Lottotech says that the Zamir family will benefit from a psychological assistance and financial advice to help them manage their money.
