Keeping beauty clinics clean

Some beauty parlours and spa are disguised places for prostitution. This is giving a wrong image  of beauty therapy salons,  besides spoiling the craft and causing considerable harm to the profession, according to the managing director of two beauty clinics who has been in the profession for some 20 years.

Learning to be employable

The summer holidays are coming with vibrant activities for Lower VI students. After some 150 students have completed the first phase of the work placement pilot project for secondary students in July, around 1000 more are expected to be placed for the second phase which starts on November 8.

Knowledge on air

Different stakeholders in education fear the Knowledge Channel launched on the national television recently may not benefit students fully. They believe there should be a special time for curriculum-based slots  after consultations with all those who are directly or indirectly connected with them. As it is, what is on offer is hardly followed by the students, they say.

Students interact

The two-day public holiday this week is not for fun or rest for many students. They will  participate in a workshop on the theme “Liniversité Sanzman Sezon”  that  Lalit organises to provide secondary school and university students with various activities.

Beyond formal curriculum

The Ministry of Education has officially launched a list of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to be carried out in Primary and Secondary schools in Mauritius and Rodrigues. While some stakeholders in education have favourably  welcomed this initiative, others are skeptical about it.

Decided and firm

Women are still under-represented in the trade union movement in Mauritius though many are trying to move away from family and social constraints to be part of the struggle and decision-making process. Jane Ragoo has made herself a place and a name in this field.
