Belall Rumjaun: CEO For One Month

Belall Rumjaun has been elected by Adecco to be the company’s CEO for one Month in line with an eponymous programme run by that organisation. He has embarked on this new adventure which he has been dreaming of for the past year. The young man is all set to conquer the world by becoming CEO For One Month international. An inhabitant of Bel Air Riviere Seche, Belall Rumjaun is not at his first attempt in this contest. In 2014, he finished in the Top 10 applicants for the CEO For One Month programme. He is very happy to take his first steps at the helm of the company with the support of his family and friends during this extraordinary adventure. “The first time I heard about the programme of CEO For One Month was in 2015, when the Adecco team was promoting the campaign at Charles Telfair Institute. This campaign appeared as a challenge to me and after watching the Boot Camp videos for 2014, I applied. That year, I was among the Top 10 finalists in Mauritius. Getting this close to succeeding motivated me to go further and I enrolled again in 2016,” he says. He now aims to reach the peak of this programme and become the Group CEO For One Month. “I look forward to gaining valuable knowledge and experience from the CEO of Adecco Mauritius and eventually, Alain Dehaze the Group CEO. It is not an easy task but with the right attitude and the determination to learn, it is achievable. As Sir Richard Branson says: ‘If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later’.”

According to him, the main qualities a young leader are: passion and determination, build trust and strong relations with team members, clients and other Adecco CEOs from around the world and focus on the goals set. Talking about his priorities, he reveals: “Now I want to learn as much as I can from the Adecco Team, network with clients and key stakeholders and use the knowledge gained to work towards reaching the Group CEO for One Month Finals. I will have lots of projects that I will be working on during that time and I shall make the most of it. My aim is to make Mauritius and its youth as well as my parents proud.”

Youth Unemployment

Belall is quite concerned with youth employment. Youth unemployment is a very serious issue not only in Mauritius but around the globe. “If you look at statistics, more than 73 million youngsters around the world are unemployed; this population is quite similar in size to that of Germany. Young people need to make the most of every opportunity, take non-remunerated internships because this is work experience. Attitude is another key factor, persist and learn from your mistakes. Lastly, use all the information everywhere appropriately in order to build knowledge. The labour market is becoming more and more competitive, and you will need to differentiate yourself and stand out from the crowd.” He believes that educational institutions should help students to develop the right skills and help them to successfully integrate the corporate world. “There is a major gap between what is expected from employees and what is being taught in schools or universities. In this sense, Adecco Group has provided more than 5,000 internships to youngsters around the world in order to help them get into the world of work.”

About the competition

As Belall, 49 other young persons were selected around the world to work for a month with their country directors and teams. Their intense training programs include learning about HR solutions, recruitment, management, finance, marketing principles, customer relationship. This is a unique experience that will enhance their skills, confidence and likelihood of being employed. Secondly, the top 10 ‘CEO For One Month’ will proceed to the next stage – The Boot Camp – following which one will be appointed as the group ‘CEO For One Month’ at Adecco.
