Le mot pour rire : Borrico

Written by

Written by

The Nirvana of Ramgoolam

Written by
Those who have taken a dip in Buddhism, even if only by intellectual curiosity, know that one of the key concepts of this philosophy is detachment or renunciation, and even at a higher degree, to reach the nirvana.

Labour/ MMM Alliance : On and off mode persists

Written by
So, we will have to wait till Monday to know whether the would-be Labour/MMM alliance is either on an on mode or an off mode. Mr. Bérenger did not make any statement to the media after the meeting of the politburo of the MMM held on Thursday; he is holding a press conference on Friday.

Analyse : Salaire minimum national

Written by

Written by

Written by

The ultimate purpose is to better serve the people, ensure their well-being and further improve their quality of life."

The Dollar Enigma

Written by
Ehshan Kodarbux, director of Le Défi Media Group, recently attended the summer school at the London School of Economics, more particularly a course on “Macro Economic Challenges of Global Imbalances”. After further readings, he compiled a report about the evolution of the dollar. We publish hereunder excerpts of this report for the benefit of our readers.

Although the Mauritian Constitution does not spell out the citizen’s right to privacy, this does not mean that the Mauritian citizen has no right to privacy. Whether a country has a written or an unwritten (like the UK) constitution, every citizen has an inherent right to privacy. Privacy is also classed as a right under the European Convention of Human Rights. Even though PM Ramgoolam is a public figure, the sanctity of his home and family must be respected. But if citizens have as Prime Minister or President or Mayor who is strongly suspected as a wife beater or an adulterer or of corruption, the people have the right to be informed and it is up to the authorities to initiate their investigations.

Until we see the photo finish!

Written by
Ramgoolam will complain - probably rightly – that pictures of him and Nandanee Soornack, taken during a private party, are being spread over a section of the press. As a good politician, Bérenger has rushed to the defense of his eventual partner, while at the same time specifying that he continues to question the operations of that special Labour activist.

Dancing with the lion

Written by
The publication in L’Express Samedi, L’Express Dimanche and Monday’s issue of L’Express of pictures depicting the Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam dancing the séga with businesswoman and Labour agent Mrs Nandanee Soornack has rekindled the debate on freedom of the press, the right to privacy and public interest.
