La plate-forme citoyenne a écrit une lettre dans laquelle elle évoque qu’il n’y a aucun risque de « black-out », mais au contraire un surplus de capacité.  Ceci, contrairement à ce que laisse entendre le Central Electricity Board (CEB). La lettre a été donnée à Rajesh Bhagwan devant l’Assemblée nationale.

Il a suffi que le Premier ministre affirme qu’il n’y a pas de représailles contre les témoins à Maurice pour que plusieurs d’entre eux se manifestent dans l’affaire Yatin Varma. C’est à la fois rassurant et inquiétant.

Depuis des années, nous nous étonnons des arrestations arbitraires des citoyens mauriciens. Ces arrestations durent depuis longtemps, quel que soit le parti au pouvoir. De telles arrestations sont condamnables et ne font pas honneur à notre pays.

The purpose of this letter is to respond to your request that I should enlighten those who cared to listen to me as to whether I brought them into error when I suggested that the President could and should exercise his function under the Commission of Inquiry Act (“the Act”).

It is good that the spokespersons of the main ruling party reassured the public on Saturday 11 May during a press conference that there will be no interference in the police investigation regarding the accident (now an incident) involving the Attorney General Yatin Varma.

Mauritians are by and large a god-fearing nation. Or at least so it would seem to the foreign visitor, as he would meander through the vast number of prayer houses strewn all over the island. First of all he would be struck by the sheer proximity of these places of worship of the different faiths. Domes, towers and minarets do exist and coexist within a short distance of each other in the towns and villages.

The appeal made by the Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam on Thursday to all those willing to depone as witness in the on-going enquiry on the alleged physical assault by the Attorney General Mr Yatin Varma on Mr Florent Jeannot is salutary. For the simple reason that doubts were persistent that witnesses of the alleged assault were reluctant to come forward fearing reprisals.

DIS-MOI (DroItS HuMains Océan Indien) exprime sa vive inquiétude face à certains agissements de la police observés ces derniers temps. En particulier, deux cas récents concernant d’une part l’arrestation d’une psychologue, et d’autre part un accident de la route impliquant un membre du gouvernement, viennent remettre en question l’image d’une institution policière au service des citoyens.

The next Commonwealth heads of government meeting is due to be held in Sri Lanka next November. The Republic of Mauritius would have to be represented as 53 other members. One of them, Canada, has taken the lead to call for the boycott of the meeting. Other human rights organisations like Amnesty International are doing the same. Mauritius should follow suit.

Il est salutaire que les porte-parole du principal parti au pouvoir aient pris l’engagement, samedi au cours d’une conférence de presse, qu’il n’y aura aucune entrave à l’enquête policière relative à l’accident (devenu incident) impliquant l’Attorney General Yatin Varma.
