In its latest report on Mauritius, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) puts it bluntly: if the recession continues in Europe (our main export and tourism market and source of Foreign Direct Investment), our growth rate, estimated at 3.7% could be drastically reduced to 2%.

To book or not to book?

My dear Billy,
Martin Luther King had a dream once, and his dream haunted him all through his life. Our ever dynamic Minister of Arts and Culture, Mookhesswur Choonee, has a brand new dream: He wants to make Mauritius the World Book Capital. He has been assailed by this very uncommon and most unlikely dream ever since UNESCO established Bangkok as the World Book Capital 2013.

The aftermath of May Day

Written by
This year Labour Day was quite different from the previous ones as the Labour/PMSD alliance decided not to hold any public gathering as a sign of respect to the eleven persons who lost their lives in the flash floods on Saturday 30th March last.

When ‘it’ happens to us!

This happens to others only, goes the saying! Until one day it hits us hard. We can predict or at least try to predict it by practising empathy, that is to say, put ourselves in the shoes of the other one and try to understand his motives.

Paradise – lost for ever?

My dear Billy, My friend Jugdish Joypaul comments on the news everyday on RadioPlus. He has a certain flair for rhyme and humour which is very pleasant and which contributes to a delectable start of the day. He began one of his broadcasts this week by wondering how Mark Twain would react, should he by chance land in Mauritius today.
