Please, no cheap politics!

Written by
With the election deadline approaching, one should expect political parties and politicians to resort to anything in their propaganda campaigns. Whatever be their side, they should not confuse between politicking and national interest.

In love with oneself

My dear Billy,
Which letter of the alphabet is the most commonly used in the world? Without any measure of doubt or fear of contradiction, the answer is the letter “I” in a very wide variety of translations. In whatever humankind undertakes, no matter what circumstances man finds himself in, it’s always “I, me, myself”- not necessarily in that order.

Knowledge Hub Revisited

Les résultats du HSC sont là, après ceux du SC rendus publics la semaine dernière. Alors que la traditionnelle proclamation des lauréats se fait dans une ambiance festive, on se demande bien si le temps n’est pas venu de revoir ce système.

Wither Global Business

Written by
It is no more a taboo: the India-Mauritius double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) is openly attacked by Indian bureaucrats who want to eliminate the very benefits that have made the success of our global business sector.

Le bras de fer a trop duré

Written by
Le bras de fer entre le ministère des Collectivités locales et les municipalités dirigées par l'opposition n'a que trop duré et engendre, par conséquent, une situation malsaine pour la démocratie régionale.

Why are the USA in Diego?

To secure a strategic military base in the Indian Ocean, in Mauritius Diego Garcia, was an idea that did not germinate overnight! Still, one wonders about its strategic defence initiative.

Please, no cheap politics !

What type of politicians and politics?

The language and actions of some politicians say a lot about the quality of our politicians and by extension our democracy.

Jai Ho!

Against all odds, it is on the diplomatic front that the Opposition and the Government are crossing swords. When the Prime Minister, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, shared his irritation with Indian Minister of Finance, Mr. Palaniapen Chidambaram, on the way negotiations were being held between India and Mauritius on the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA),
various reactions followed.
My dear Billy,
Will you believe me if I tell you that it is with a lot of apprehension and dread that I open my morning newspaper since quite some time. No, it’s not exactly the eventuality of a remote tsunami or the reactivation of the Trou-aux – Cerfs. It’s not the news of the crumbling down of an old building in Bombay, nor the blast of a bomb in Afghanistan. These are daily occurrences and they no longer shock anybody.
Mauritius is on a verge of becoming one of the toughest sovereignty in the recruitment system, you heard me right, a reckless system I'm afraid! With mostly everyone holding a degree today to ending up later sitting on their bum watching tv and munching on their nails.
