Explanations for drop in CPE passes: A farce

I am referring to the lame excuses which appeared on today’s L’express (14/12/07 ) from the Minister of Education to explain the drop of success rate at CPE examination, rather to explain the rise in failures at CPE level. So according to him, there is a rise in failures because the mode of teaching has changed. At what level, Sir? The type of evaluation, CPE tests the child’s intelligence at one particular point
in time, i.e at the time the child is sitting for the exams. So definitely, the child will have to cram up by heart and try to regurgitate all that has been learnt by heart at exams time.
According to the Minister, the assessment mode has changed for one subject, i.e the child was made to reason. For five or six years the child has been spoon-fed and suddenly he/she is asked to eat on his own. Who took the decision to do so? Because those people who changed this need to be sentenced in court because they have ruined a child’s career and future by taking a decision ‘au hasard’. It’s a blame for you as Minister and the least you can do in this case is step down and not to search for scapegoats.

Lindsay,
You have got it all wrong my friend. Children are now exposed more and more to gadgets and other stuff around them including the Tv. A lot of distractions and changes in moral and ethical codes. Parents have little or no time with their kids at home to nurture and supervise them. What do you expect??People are more greedy these days and very materialistic my friend. Look around you and take a deep breath and reflect on this changing world and NOT just Paradise Island Mauritius!! I am sick to death about the mauritian mentality. We need to move with change and accept, adopt with changes around us!! Good day!! |
