Thank you.
The two exclusive videos above depict the real horror of the flood in Mon Goût, Pamplemousses.
Patricia Fra, la meneuse des manifestations à Cité Hibiscus, Flacq, montre les dégâts causés par la rivière qui traverse la cité.
The flood at its pinnacle in Mon Goût, Pamplemousses. You can see a BMW X5 trapped in the fast-moving water. Later it would be swept away into the river. This is also the place from where Laura Paul and Vinoda Coopen Rughoo were carried away and unfortunately passed on later.
Here's one from one of our users, Didier. This seems to have been filmed in Central Flacq.
The two videos above come from Avish Appadu, showing scenes in Rivière du Rempart & Mon Loisir.

The
river
in Réduit was all over the place on Wednesday 26th March 2008 after it
had rained non-stop on the island for more than 48 hours.

Nowadays, me and my husband are in Ire-Land. We came across the flooding news via Internet and my mum called me. It is something of great concern. And as a Mauritian we are profondly touched, especially for those are lost their beloved ones. And without forgetting our planters who have seen all their plantation and investment washed away on the "Tsunami". Though it was a natural disaster, we strongly believe that the lost of lives could have been prevented. Our Meteorological Station, and over and above else our "Honorable" mins of Edu... have deeply failed. Our Prime Minister is always surrounded by his so-called Advisers is equally to be blamed. And our Com... of Police ..........Oufffffffffff!!!

Hi,I am Whendy and I live in Germany .When i heard about what was happening in Mauritius i could not believed it but then I saw these videos ,i was really shocked and I started reading the newspapers on the net and trying to find out what was happening in my country .I have to say that of course weather catastrophe does happen but its incredible to see how ignorant our polititians are and how imcompetent! To think that in that type of weather they let schools to be open and also for people to go to work is irresponsible and absolutely careless. They have absolutely no idea about disaster management.I hope that people will learn their lesson and that the next time they go to vote they will vote for people who have the capacity to govern and manage a country accordingly and not just voting some political groups because of their religion or how much backing one can get from them.

absolutely devastating these videos. I reside in the u.k and i have been listening to the radios and reading the papers on the net. My heart goes out to the people who have lost their loved ones and to all those who have been left homeless and their lives disrupted. I hope that the government see to all of them and their needs. All the rivers and canals should be in tip top conditions. There is a reason why we have rivers and canals but if themselves are full of rubbish or blocked or cemented off then where do the rain go. Another thing is why does everybody build a wall of brick as fence and a lot of them are on the main roads. The drainage system needs looking into urgently. I do pray that everything goes back to normal very very soon. Put all your trust in God.. Jesus heals remember. regards from a concerned compatriote.

I still remember back in the days, during the Maha Shivratree festival. there was a cyclone and the ex CP Dayal ordered all vehicles of the Police Force to come rescue the pilgrims. I wonder if the authorities or indeed the supposed aspiring CP Mr Rampersad and the now commanding officer Mr Servansingh have any disaster management policies. Does the PM even know about disaster management. The tsunami came and lessons were supposed to be learnt. Seems that none has been done and none have been learnt. Its great time to change certain heads of important departments or even those aspiring to become the future heads of departments to think if they have the necessary qualifications and not just think of appointing politcal nominees just because they support a particular party.

How can it be that in such a situation, nobody has deemed right to close the schools after so many days? What happened to all these people are simply horrible. Things can't be changed but if the schools were closed on that particular day, maybe one or more persons would still be here today.
Hope that it'll serve as lesson to new leaders and that they'll care more about our new generation. These children will be our tomorrow leaders so dare not play with their lives. |
