Stock Exchange of Mauritius down on the 10th day

(Friday 22 August 2008 ) What's really happening in the Mauritian stock market is quite surprising, who would have predicted that in August, SEMDEX will be losing on 10 consecutive days and SEM-7 will pursuit nine days in red.
In the last 10 days, SEMDEX has lost 4.52 % or 79.16 pts while the blue chip index, SEM-7 has lost 5.69% or 24.6pts in the last nine days. The return on market index, SEMTRI tumbled by 4.47% or Rs 209.20 in the previous 10 days.
Today, SEMDEX closed at 1673.82 pts, down 0.22% or 9.71 pts and SEMTRI went down by Rs 3.63 to close at Rs 4, 472.76. The blue chip index settled at 407.73 pts, down 0.23% or 0.95 pts.
586, 999 shares were interchanged and the market turnover was Rs 41.4 million.
New Mauritius Hotel was the top gainer with 0.7% or Rs 1.00. The worst loser was Fincorp Investment which saw its share price plunged by 7.1% or Rs 1.10.
The biggest volume recorded was that of State Bank of Mauritius while MCB had the highest turnover.
The evolution of the various sectors were as follows: Banking, Insurance & Other Finance (down 0.37% or Rs 250.4 m), Commerce (down 0.72% or Rs 126 m), Industry (down 0.74% or Rs 36.6 m), Investments (down 0.21% or Rs 32.9 m), Leisure and Hotels (down 0.3% or Rs 116.8 m), Sugar (up 0.05% or Rs19.3 m) and Transport (Unchanged).

What will the upcoming week be like?
As the trend persist, recovery in the main indices is likely to be expected. Demand for some shares are more likely to increase as traders may start buying low priced shares in expectation that in future they can sell them at higher price.SEMDEX and SEM-7 may start in green.

just wait for the eanings season next week, and watch MCB and SBM.

Thank you Mr. Mervin for your nice suggestion. In my next article, i will provide more information about MCB and SBM (Change in share price, total volume and even a summary of the interim and last financial report). I only wanted to know whether waiting would not be dangerous? As it can mean doing last hour shopping and the share price may eventually rise on that day.
