A different view...

Of the few quotes I still remember from my literature tuitions is that from Macbeth
" This even-handed justice commands the ingredients of the poisoned chalice tou our own lips.."
Two years spent reading Shakespeare taught me, above all, one basic thing; you cannot escape from your deeds.. or in more familiar jargon.. "kan ou plante zonion, ou koner ki ou pu rapporter!"
Well, I am studying abroad right now, and when you are abroad, you get to realise a few things; first of all, everyone takes everything lightly in Mauritius, especially when talking about the way the country is governed. Stressing that it is my personal opinion, I feel that "actualite dan moris n badinaz, n gajak".
Ministers articulate big words and concept they have just learnt... " world class education!!!" ... This government has been the government of Hubs! You hear about a new hub everyday.. knowledge hub.. seafood hub.. patati patata...
Another problem is the criterion for nominating ministers and advisers. Religion, Casteism... ki fami.. .. proche ek minis.. proche ek intel.. This is why there are people who do not have an 'A' level degree .. but still have the audacity to come and "fer nou la lesson"!!
We must admit, in Mauritius, there is no democracy as such. I am not saying we are living under dictatorship, but don't come and tell me Mauritius is democratic. Democracy does not simply mean you go to meetings, and then you have the right to vote. No. Democracy does not end on the day of results. We, the people of Mauritius, give these politicians the power they now use (abuse?) today.. So if we were in a democracy, they should have been responsible, "afraid" of us, accountable to us. The way it is now, we give them total control for 5 years, and this is why Mauritius has not enjoyed the success of Singapore.
This was just a personal view on current state of things; I was thinking of posting it on facebook too, but you know the rest.. :)
