    No longer frail and submissive

International Women's Day was commemorated on Monday, a day on which stress was laid on the  role of woman in the proper flow of human lives and shaping of the society. Uma Sooben-Arnauld, president of the NGO Joie de Vivre Universelle, thinks this day is special in itself. It celebrates and honours the woman.

She believes that woman entrepreneurship is one of the best means leading to the woman's emancipation and independence.

“ I just can't send away somebody who comes to me for help,” says the president of National Women Council, Regional Committee; and winner of the Outstanding Volunteer Award 2009, organised by the Mauritius Council of Youth Leaders.

She is fully convinced that the education of women is at the core of not only their personal
progress, but also that of their family and immediate surroundings.

She believes that women have rights but also responsibilities, especially when it comes to mothers. According to her, rights and responsibilities are not separate from each other.

    Life worth living in peace
