Every year on the 12th of March, everybody thinks of Independence Day with the usual flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by parades by the police force, para military groups and floats. And yet Mauritius has become a Republic since 12 March 1992 and this important event is celebrated together, on the same day as Independence Day.
