Carburants : les prix restent inchangés

Comme annoncé dans Le Défi Quotidien ce matin, vendredi 3 février, les prix des carburants restent inchangés. Le Petroleum Pricing Committee, qui s’est réuni en fin d’après-midi, a opté pour le statu quo. Le prix de l’essence reste à Rs 49, 30 le litre tandis que celui du diesel est maintenu à Rs 41,20.

War veteran’s outcry at slashed grant

Mr Ahmed Doba, an ex-serviceman and a war veteran who served our country, has contacted News on Sunday to share his disbelief and disgust at the decision taken by the Mauritius Ex-Services Trust Fund over the new grants structure. The Mauritius Ex-Services Trust Fund was established under the Mauritius Ex-Services Act 2000 and came into operation on 31 July 2000.

Rodrigues goes to the poll

A car was smashed and political agents lightly injured on Tuesday night as campaigning nears its end. The Population of Rodrigues is on the thrill as D-Day for polling is approaching fast. Around 27,000 voters are expected at the six polling centres on Sunday 5 February to elect 12 members for the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. All political meetings and other rallies come to an end this evening, Friday 3 February.

The MTPA could not have done better in terms of promotion. The emission of M6 dedicated to Maurice was a big hit in France. The investigational programme entitled “Rêves, fortunes et trafics au soleil” of the French channel, (Dreams, fortune and traffic in the sun) has broken all records in the ratings, attracting 14.2% of the Sunday audience.

SC results

The success rate this year has declined from 77, 82 % to 76, 74 %.  Out of the 17 192 students who took part in the SC examinations, only 13 194 passed. In Rodrigues the success rate is at 78, 76 % with 456 students being successful out of the 579 who took part.

Abolition of slavery

Mauritius commemorated on Wednesday 1st February the 177th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. Many activities were organised across the island in memory of the slaves. The rally "Flambeau de la Liberté" started on Tuesday and saw the participation of several students, members of sports federation and members of women's groups and the elderly at Bassin-des-Esclaves in Pamplemousses, passing through numerous renowned sites and eventually finishing at Plaza, Rose Hill.
