There should be no room for insults, personal attacks, prying in personal lives and foul words. Our politicians should learn how to behave in Parliament and should respect institutions but above all, should respect the people. The RCP condemns the behavior that we have witnessed in Parliament over the past two weeks.
The political stage is not one where they play amongst themselves but one where they work for the people. The RCP invites everyone to adhere to our proposed charter. It is high time that we bring back our values. Mauritius, once termed as the ‘Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’, should remain so.
Political Charter:
Article 1. Politicians may present their proposals, ideas and programs based critical analysis of their opponents. The overview is addressed within the same framework. Political style may be criticised.
Article 2. The politician is prohibited from making any communal speech, ethnic or religious and / or have a public political behavior marked by a communal penchant, ethnic or religious except when in line with the Constitution.
Article 3. It is forbidden to insult or use vulgar words against the political opponent, whether it is orally or through written statements.
Article 4. The politician should refrain from making sexist or offensive comments towards the opposite sex as well as pertaining to the sexual orientation of political opponent.
Article 5. There shall be no attack on the privacy of the political opponent or personal attack against her/his close relatives or family.
Article 6. The politician shall not offer or promise any gift, which could be construed as an electoral bribe for the benefit of influencing the voters in a particular way. The RCP invites all politicians, as well as citizens, to sign this chart, online or on the ground where we will be visiting, so as to abide to those six key points. We firmly believe that it is the start of a new way of doing politics in Mauritius.

RCP’s political charter
The Ralliement Citoyen pour la Patrie (RCP) has presented its political charter at a press conference on Thursday 20th December at The St Georges Hotel. We believe that it is an innovative idea especially after what the nation has witnessed during the campaign last local elections. It is high time that there is a cleanup in our local politics and that we change the ways of doing things.
