Drug trafficking: Rs 5 million seized during police raid

The police has carried out a sting operation at around 5 am on Thursday November 3, in Cité Sainte-Claire, Goodlands, during which Rs 5 million in cash were seized at the residence of one of the inhabitants. It is suspected that the money originates from drug trafficking. Along with the money, synthetic drugs and marijuana were also seized.

The sting operation involved a major deployment of resources with around 40 vehicles making it do the site, the commandos of the NCG and GIPM were also roped in as well as the Special Mobile Force. The head of the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit, DCP Choolun Bhojoo explained that he had to call upon these police units because previous raids met with resistance from the inhabitants of this region.

The main suspect was arrested and taken to the police headquarters for questioning. Three other suspects – two men and one woman – were also arrested for other drug offences. Two of them, including the woman, were released on bail after appearing before the Court.
