The audit firm Grant Thornton Mauritius, a branch of Grant Thornton International, in collaboration with the Mauritius Bankers Association (MBA), is organising a seminar on the 14 March 2012, on the ‘Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act’ (FATCA) at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebène. This seminar, on invitation basis, is free and intended for finance professionals, bankers, insurance brokers, financial advisers, fund managers and auditors.
The FATCA legislation, voted in 2010 and effective as of 1st January 2014, is an additional fiscal measure to the US taxation system, which aims at achieving conformity by imposing a 30% withholding tax on certain US source payments made to 'foreign financial institutions' (FFIs) and 'non-financial foreign entities' (NFFEs) that fail to identify certain US investors, even if such US persons directly or indirectly hold only non-US assets.

Three experts from Grant Thornton UK will be participating in the seminar: Dana Ward, Tax Partner, Malcolm Thomas, Senior Manager –Business Consulting and George Palmer, Tax Associate. Grant Thornton Mauritius, established in 1999, is a member of Grant Thornton International. The firm has 25,000 collaborators, of which 2,220 are associates working in 540 offices across 115 countries.
