Elderly lady dies
Lucy Bassee aged 85 died on Wednesday after she was victim of a road accident at Brabant Street, Bell-Village on Tuesday night. The old lady was hit by a motorcycle while she was crossing the road. Seriously injured, the victim was taken to Dr AG Jeetoo hospital but did not survive. A post mortem performed by Dr. Monvoisin attributed the death of the victim to "multiple injuries". According to reports, it was the police who took her to the hospital. As for the motorcyclist, a resident of Pailles, aged 33, he underwent an alcotest which proved negative. He appeared in Port Louis court on Wednesday on a charge of manslaughter and was released on bail.

Ajagen A. aged 28, residing at Triolet was found lying beside his motorcycle on the main road at Mapou, along with his passenger Kevin R. aged 20, on Sunday afternoon. The two men were injured. They were taken to SSR Hospital at Pamplemousses for treatment. Ajagen A., who worked as merchandiser, was seriously wounded and passed away shortly after his arrival at the emergency unit. The post mortem attributed the death to multiple injuries. As for the passenger, he suffered only minor injuries and was allowed to return home after receiving treatment. He was interrogated on Monday by Piton police who have initiated an enquiry.

Karl A, a British tourist aged 35, was recently attacked with an iron pipe by Sanjeev C. who works as 'skipper' at Flic en Flac. He got a fractured tibia and received a blow on the head. The victim was on île-aux-Bénitiers together with three friends. The group of friends who had brought along a stock of beer soon ran short of drinks. They made acquaintance with other tourists on the island and asked their new friends whether they would agree to sell them two pints of beer.

For over a year, a man keeps on harassing his mother, a widow residing at Pointe-aux- Piments. The two girls, one a student and the other a hostess, are not ready to forget their misfortune. In a statement made to Moka police station, the two young women said they were in a pickup parked at Le Bocage when two hooded men approached them, swords in hands.

Human bones mystery unsolved
The police are still trying to trace the identity of the woman whose remains were discovered last Friday at Petit Raffray. It was during an excavation work on an abandoned land that the skull and bones were discovered. Grand Bay CID officers were summoned. Three fancy bracelets, some underwear, and telephone cables were discovered. The police suspect a “foul play”.
