Youth dies on brand new bike
Jean Liberman Emilien, a fisherman aged 24 and residing at Rodrigues, bought a brand new motorcycle earlier this year. He was riding his motorcycle near Cascade Jean-Louis on Monday night, when he lost control of his vehicle before falling in a gutter. The heavy showers recorded in Rodrigues supposedly caused this accident. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Crève-Coeur, but it was too late. Dr. Shaila Parsad Jankee, medical examiner, will travel to Rodrigues to perform an autopsy. All the inhabitants of Reposoir and friends of the young victim are affected by this sudden disappearance. Jean Liberman Emilien was known as a generous person.

Adolescent victim of terrible bike accident

Feroz M, aged 16 and residing at Vallée Pitot has been the victim of a terrible accident on Tuesday night at the height of the NTR Mapou. He was on a motorcycle when he hit the side of a van near the of Mapou / Pamplemousses junction. The young man had apparently lost control of his vehicle, fell heavily and ended against a ramp. According to preliminary information, the officers do not exclude the fact that the young man who has neither a ‘learner’ nor a driving licence, was participating in a rally during that late hour.

Contaminated water at Sodnac

Residents of Sodnac had a disgusting experience yesterday: muddy water flowing from the tap. Two children aged seven and eleven respectively vomited after drinking the muddy water. Their father said they started vomiting shortly after drinking the contaminated water on Monday at about 1pm. “We gave them serum to drink... They are gradually recovering... The water was muddy and smelled foul,” said the father.

Yesterday morning, a policeman aged 22, posted at Coromandel police station shot himself in the head with his service pistol. The young policeman had one year of service in the police force. He committed this desperate act in the toilets. According to sources, he had “family problems.” An investigation has been initiated to shed light on this tragedy.

On her way back, she was attracted by a silhouette and was curious to see what it was. “It was horrible and scary! I saw a red t-shirt, hanging with a rope from a branch of a litchi tree.”

Mohammad Yassine, a student aged 22 was arrested by the Port police on Monday. This happened after he turned up at the delivery counter of the Post Office at Port Louis. The youngster, from a village in the south, had ordered a stun gun online, which sends electric shocks. As a gift for his purchase, the young man also received a tear gas canister. He appeared in Port Louis court on Tuesday.

Gunmen steal cattle worth Rs 700,000

Two workers at a farm in Grand Bay were attacked on Monday morning by two men armed with guns and sabre, who then stole about 27 goats which were recently imported from South Africa. Taxi driver assaulted and robbed

Reshad, aged 56, residing in a suburb of (Port-Louis) and father of three children, is a taxi driver for over 35 years. On Tuesday at around 2pm, while he was at Farquhar Street, near the Central Market, a man wearing a cap approached him. “He told me to take him to Sainte-Croix to pick up his daughter and then drop them at Cassis,” he said. Reshad told the man that this trip would cost Rs400, which he accepted. Reshad said that the passenger indicated the way up to the shrine of Father Laval at Sainte-Croix, where he asked him to borrow a lane and keep going on a road leading to Le-Hochet. “He asked me to park my car in front of a house. He got out of the car and told me to open the boot where he would put his daughter’s personal belongings,” said Reshad.

Cop borrows bike to chase thieves
Nasser Domun lent his bike on Wednesday to Police Officer Khedun who then proceeded with the arrest of two suspected robbers as they fled on a motorcycle. The two suspects had just stolen items from the ‘Prestige’ shop, located near the former Savoy cinema, at Vacoas. It is a seller of the shop who alerted the policeman who was patrolling the area on foot. Wasting no time, the police officer approached Nasser Domun and asked him if he could borrow his motorcycle, and the latter agreed readily. The policeman immediately engaged in a film-style chase and successfully apprehended the runaway thieves some 500 metres away before asking for police reinforcement. The two suspects were then taken to the police station of the locality for further investigation.
