A member of the Special Supporting Unit (SSU), aged 23 and residing at Port Louis was arrested after his ex-girlfriend had filed a complaint against him for sexual assault.
Zaira (fictitious name) alleged that she was sodomised a month ago by her boyfriend, S.P, who was at that time a young policeman assigned to the Special Supporting Unit (SSU). The young woman met the police officer on the social network Facebook four months ago. Their friendship soon turned into love. Since then, they started dating and had sex several times in a guesthouse. The alleged victim told investigators that one Saturday, during the month of October, the police officer told her that he would pick her up at home to go for a ride on his motorcycle. They then headed to La Citadelle in Port Louis. The policeman proposed the young girl to have intimate intercourse, but she refused. However, she eventually accepted.

According to the alleged victim, during their intimate intercourse at a hotel, the police officer seized the opportunity to sodomise her. However as Zaira was feeling uncomfortable during the act, the two love birds left the hotel and returned home. The young girl revealed the whole affair to her parents in November. She was hospitalised for several days. Zaira, employee in a private firm in the capital, said she is "traumatised" by the event. "He asked me not to reveal anything as he might get into trouble at his work. Because I loved him, I complied. Shortly after, I found that he did not intend to marry me. Whenever my parents offered him a date for our wedding, he kept delaying. I did not expect him to behave like that!” she complained.

She lodged a complaint at the Trou-Fanfaron police station on Tuesday. The young officer was arrested and kept in custody. On Wednesday, he appeared at the Port-Louis Court. He rejected the allegations made against him. In his statement, he confessed having sexual relationship with Zaira, with her consent, but at no time did he sexually assault her. The investigation is conducted by Inspector Sobnath.
