Blog Submitting Guidelines
All blogs published on our website must maintain certain editorial standards. You can help expedite the process (and the publication of your work) by making sure to meet a few simple guidelines before submitting your piece:
1. Make sure you have checked for spelling and grammatical errors.
A quick run through for missing words can
make a huge difference.
Whether you are referencing a quote, statistic, or specific event, you should include a link that backs up your statement. If you’re not sure, it’s better to lean on the cautious side here. More links will also enhance the piece for the reader.
3. If you quote someone you interviewed, make sure you can back it up.
To some extent, it will be your word that corroborates the quote. At the very least, however, you will need to be able to present the
name of the person interviewed and the time and place your conversation
occurred. Being able to produce a transcription of the quote is also a
good idea. Before you think about quoting someone, you must establish
up front whether or not that person is willing to speak with you on the
record and willing to be quoted in print. Anonymous quotes are ok, but
you should still have information to verify them.
4. If you make a negative, fact-based assertion about someone or something, you need to reach the person(s) concerned for a comment.
There will be gray
areas here, but, in general, if you are presenting someone in a
negative light and the article is not clearly your own opinion, you
will need to contact the person for a response. Getting a comment
simply involves an e-mail (or call) to the person
and giving them enough time to respond.
5. The blog must not contain any pornography or other inappropriate profane language.
Pornographic or adult advertising, erotica or adult-only content, gratuitous or graphic violence, material that infringes on or violates someone else's intellectual property rights, or material that promotes/disseminates illegal activities won't be published and it might even get you banned from our website.
6. Please refrain from personal attacks.
Do not be afraid to respectfully challenge one another by asking questions, but refrain from personal attacks - focus on ideas instead. And instead of invalidating somebody else's story with your own spin on their experience, share your own story and experience.
