Xavier Luc Duval against appointment of Sudhir Sesungkur

On the eve of the peaceful demonstration of the parliamentary opposition against the handing over of power, Xavier-Luc Duval in a press conference affirms that it is quite normal for Navin Ramgoolam participates in this gathering because he is the leader of the Labour Party. However, the former Deputy Prime Minister maintains that this step is in no way “an alliance of the Opposition, nor a common platform of the Opposition. “It is a grouping to protest against a government with totalitarian excesses. It is important that the Opposition demonstrate that, when it is necessary, it can unite to be a contentious force.”

Xavier-Luc Duval also deplored the appointment of Sudhir Sesungkur as head of the Department of Financial Services and Good Governance. “If a Minister is subject to a lawsuit, we cannot appoint him as the Chief Financial Officer. We will be the laughingstock of the whole world. It is an awkward appointment that will have an impact on Mauritius’ reputation internationally.”

Concerning Roshi Bhadain, Xavier-Luc Duval asked the former Minister of Finance and Good Governance to go ahead and reveal the files he has against some members of the government. The Opposition leader also commented on Sir Anerood Jugnauth’s press conference on Tuesday. He describes this approach as “indecent” and stresses that it was up to Pravind Jugnauth to address the population.

MMM will not be part in protest

The MMM has decided not to participate in the protest march against the transfer of power between Sir Anerood Jugnauth and the leader of the MSM, Pravind Jugnauth, scheduled this Friday. It is the leader of MMM Paul Bérenger who announced on Thursday evening in a statement to the press. According to the leader, the MMM withdrew itself from the protest following the statements made by Navin Ramgoolam. He also added that that it was decided at a meeting between the MPs of the four parties of the parliamentary opposition that no party will display its colour during this march and everyone will be in black but the Labour Party will be doing exactly the opposite. “The Labour Party is trying to manipulate this event making it appear same as 1st May. We are revolted by the statements of Navin Ramgoolam,” he stated. Paul Bérenger announced that the MMM would hold a press conference at 11 am on Friday.
