Imagination knows no boundaries and so does your passion. This line summarizes the life of Atasha. Despite being in the scientific field, Atasha has never controlled her imagination and creativity. She has managed to keep both alive in her.

The idea to launch Tashu’s Crafts emerged when she wanted to offer something unique and handmade as gifts to her colleagues. It is at that particular moment that she found she possessed a unique talent for creating explosion boxes and drawing of Mandelas. From there began an artistic journey for Atasha. Her ingenuity led her to getting orders for explosion boxes from many friends.

“Everyone who knows me has encouraged me to go ahead and hence I started by taking orders through my Facebook Page,” she reveals. To her surprise, orders began to come in large numbers. People contacted her for various gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, farewell, engagements and weddings.

Currently, she is just managing everything via social media but in the near future, she expects to set up a full- fledged business. At present, she is exhibiting her products at various fairs such as Spring Market Festival and Summer Market Festival at Les Allées D'Helviettia-Moka.

“I get many orders especially during wedding seasons, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and New Year period. For orders, clients need only to send their pictures, budget, choice of colour, only then will I start crafting. I usually deliver in Port Louis, Curepipe, Rose Hill and Flacq.”

An artist in the soul

Atasha is not only a craft maker but also a painter. She loves drawing Mandelas. During her university days, she used to apply henna for her friends and did henna drawings with Champagne flutes, which she gifted to friends as well as families for weddings.

“Discovering a passion for crafts and painting led me to offer it to people, so that they can appreciate it and also have an idea for gifts during special occasions,” she says.

She is very popular for her explosion box cards. It is a box that opens up like a card containing pictures and special memories of a person. She also does scrapbook photo albums and rock painting. Sometimes, she lets her imagination wander and create extraordinary gifts on the demand of some clients.

A rocky journey

Living your passion is not as easy as it is perceived when you have a full time job. Atasha is someone who deals with both sciences and art. She faces various challenges. One of them is time management. She states that several times, clients give her too short notice for orders.

“Sometimes I need to create something completely new from the ideas given by the clients.  There are some difficulties in realizing their idea to 100 % similarity though they have always expressed their satisfaction,’ she says.

Professional pathway

Atasha started her professional career as a Research Assistant at the University of Mauritius undertaking a soap making project for a woman’s association. She has then joined the MSIRI - MCIA as a trainee.

As from 2016, she started to work as Assistant Chemist in a Private Company in the North.
