Safaa Dawood: Enterprising youngster in innovative makeup arts

Young Safaa Dawood, 20, could not decide on a specific career path until she became attracted by the profession of makeup artist. This, she says, is because she has always loved art. Our budding artist shares her story with News on Sunday.Safaa Dawood is a self-employed makeup artist and is determined to succeed in her career path through innovation and building customer relations. “I’ve always loved colours and creating new designs to make beautiful canvas, so it was not difficult for me to become a makeup artist as I’ve always been dealing with colours, not to mention my passion for the TV fashion programmes which have been inspiring me so far,” she says. But where did she learn about makeup art? “I’ve been taking courses since the age of 16 during school holidays and I learned about techniques online and also during a placement in a beauty school in Mauritius.” Safaa works with a number of branded products such as Kryolan, L’oreal Paris and Mac. She claims that the photographs of her clients do not need any editing at all, thanks to her impressive makeup. Safaa has learnt to cope with the pressure of this job, as she is always busy with phone calls or meeting clients to discuss their needs. “This is an activity that requires extreme patience, and one has to be calm and needs to concentrate. Clients must also be patient if they want a very good result,” she explains. As a professional makeup artist, she says that the primer is the most important because it works as a first base on the face, allowing every type of foundation to suit the skin. For her, the most rewarding thing about working as a make-up artist is making someone feeling confident within herself by enhancing her hidden beauty. As a parting advice, she says that doing the base properly is very important, before revealing her forthcoming projects: a beauty school and parlour and fashion shows to present new makeups and show the public how flexible she can be with her work.
