It was not only a moment for entertainment and learning but also for shopping sprees. According to Gwendoline de Spéville, Events Plus Brand and Marketing Manager, this edition brought together more health care providers than earlier ones and the visitors were more than happy to take advantage of the various free tests.

“This edition looked after all the features that have an impact on our family life. Special focus was laid on health, which has been our key highlight. The various stands also provided promotional offers. Subsequently, a family at the fair was able to spend superior quality time together. Children, mostly, also had a wonderful time at our kids’ corner.”

Défi Santé : a first impressive participation

This has been the first participation of Défi Santé at the fair. Fateema Capery, responsible for the website défisanté.mu, a platform dedicated solely to health and well being, launched in November 2017, explains that this fair has been an amazing opportunity to interact with the public.

“It is the first time we have been involved with the public in a face-to-face interaction after our launch. It has been a huge opportunity to make the public discover our website and connect with them. We also discussed our upcoming projects.”

At the stand of Défi Santé, it was pure effervescence because of the interactions and the mini-talks on health issues. Fateema Capery reveals that at the start, they had planned only two mini-talks per day but seeing the mounting interest, they added a third one each day.

Mini-talks of 15 minutes on different themes were on the agenda for the three days as from 11:00 and 14:00. The themes discussed were on the significance of breakfast, diabetes and about how to adapt our lifestyle to this disease, the benefits of Moringa, discussions about eyewear choices, the importance of giving rest to our eyes and digital impact on the eyes, as well as the risks of female cancer.

Seeing this opportunity, a young entrepreneur of 21, who suffers from a handicap, presented the visitors with a new innovative product called ‘Telescope Magnifying Medical Mirror’, which allows diabetic patients or anyone else to diagnose their feet properly.

Another interesting feature has been the quiz competitions, which created a lot of curiosity and had many participants thronging at Défi Santé. The first contest took place on Friday, where the winner went away with a stone-based nonstick pan offered by Stoneline.

On Saturday, the winner of the second contest won a massage for two persons offered by Les Mariannes Wellness Sanctuary. Finally, the winner of the third contest, scheduled for Sunday, was offered a gift box with several cosmetic products from Himalaya.

Fateema Capery confides that Défi Santé is working on various future projects and they will keep up with public interaction.

Free health tests

Another interesting feature was  the free health tests. At the stand of Link To Life, women aged 20 and above have been able to get a free screening of the breast. They have also been advised on how to proceed with their own screening at home. By doing this, Link to Life is working on preventions and early detection that can save the lives of women.

Similarly, during the fair through screening, various new cases of diabetes were detected as well as pre-diabetic cases. People were advised of the precautions to be taken and changes needed for a healthy lifestyle. Other NGOs present, such as Mauritius Autism, Lupus Alert, or PILS bonded with visitors and advised them accordingly.

Promotional offers

Along with free tests, various health equipments were on sale.  Glucometer or blood pressure monitor were available at 25% and 30% cheaper. Soza Health promoted its socks for diabetics and water filter that allows alkaline water in three modes: hot, ice and normal temperature. Top Only Pharma, experts in various teeth products, showcased to visitors products that were appropriate for tooth sensitivity and bleeding.

Weetabix brand offered customers the opportunity to taste its products. The representatives advised visitors on the benefits of Weetabix. Children had lots of fun at this stand. There were painting and coloring as well as the famous M&M's caravan for children.
