Ravin Dajee: “Fintech is disrupting the traditional financial services”

Barclays Mauritius has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The bank, which has been rebranded as Absa Group Limited, has contributed immensely in the financial and banking sector. In this context, we interviewed the Managing Director, Barclays Bank Mauritius, Ravin Dajee, who elaborated on the banking sector and digital transformation within this sector.

Rs 139.2 M toys imported this year

Worldwide, the toy industry has known a slight decrease in the volume as well as in the sales. Experts believe that this year, there is trouble in toy-land. The same trend has been felt in Mauritius. For this current year, the value of imported toys amounts to Rs 139.2 million, as compared to last year, where the total reached Rs 215 million.

Rainy Christmas Eve expected

After several days of uncomfortable heat, the situation has returned to seasonal temperatures since Thursday 19th December. The mercury will drop and temperatures expected as from Friday 20th December will vary between 260 to 330 Celsius. This is due to the anticyclone to the South of the Mascarenes, which is approaching slowly and it will gradually cause a moderate and relatively more comfortable airstream to flow over our region.

Adult illiteracy

A disturbing factor in today’s world

Over 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. In Mauritius, it is estimated that nearly 200,000 people cannot read or write. With the aim to curb the issue of illiteracy among Mauritian adults, the Rotary Club of Port Louis, in collaboration with the NGO Caritas and the National Empowerment Foundation, initiated the Basic Functional Literacy classes project. After 50 hours of courses, 22 Mauritian adults have now become literate and independent people.
